Winter Birding | Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park, CA

This post is about the 6th week class of 2020 Birds of the Santa Barbara Region: Intermediate.

Class met at the Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park, then went to the Bluffs. 38 bird species were seen.

Male Allen's Hummingbird ready to hand out tardy slips!

Beautiful view of the salt marsh.

Cinnamon Teal diving among Salicornia, a salt tolerant succulent.

The famous Greater Roadrunner of Carpinteria.

Male Anna's Hummingbird.

Savannah Sparrow.

My first time seeing an adult Yellow-crowned Night Heron (YCNH) other than in Central America.

This YCNH counts birders to fall asleep.

A fluffy Song Sparrow insisted on singing to us.

On our way back, the Yellow-crowned Night Heron was still near the footbridge in the shade.

Partial shot of a Snowy Egret... time to go.
